Aim: To test the Medical Appraisal Guide on behalf of GPs working in NHS settings in England.

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust

Aim: To test the Medical Appraisal Guide on behalf of Consultants and SAS doctors working in an NHS acute hospital in England.

Sample of Doctors in Pilot: 100 Consultants. Appraisees will be recruited from those who are scheduled to have an appraisal in the pilot period initially.  Additional appraisees will be recruited through the presentation of information directly to doctors, through RDRs and to Directorate and Trust wide meetings.

Sample of Doctors in Pilot: 400 doctors in total broken down as follows:

100 GPs working regularly in a practice

100 GPs working as locums including in Out-of-Hours organisations

100 Consultants working in London acute care trusts

50 Consultants working in London mental health trusts

50 SAS doctors
